TDM #10

Whether it be sleep or death, you feel your eyes close, and as your body begins to let go, you see a barn owl that is flying through the darkness, soon sweeping you across the clouded sky. You feel yourself mouth the words, “I wish, I wish..” and utter your deepest and darkest desire.
When you regain consciousness, you’ll find you are in an unfamiliar place with no recognition of how you arrived here. You have the clothes on your back, but nothing else. No weapons and if you had a particular superpower, you’ll notice it is missing. All you have is a satchel with a piece of bread, a vial of water, and a potion. The potion could be red, blue or golden. There are no instructions about these potions other than two words: Drink Me.
Will you drink it or not?
There is a parchment, handwritten in scrawling, jagged lettering that seems a bit... ominous:
You’re in a garden, surrounded by flowers and plants– most of which you cannot identify. However, there are a few that you can make out: Sunflowers and Hibiscus. You’ll soon find out that being around the Sunflower makes it difficult to pass through the already disorienting garden, even with the light guiding you. Where patches of them grow, even if only waist-high, you cannot pass through them, over them, or even destroy them to get them out of your way. In each grouping that blocks your path, there is one that has a key-shaped opening in the middle of the flower. Maybe the key is nearby? (Spoiler: it's probably under a rock nearby that you forgot to check!) The hibiscus offers an entirely different effect - inhaling the pollen grants you the temporary ability to shoot fireballs out of your hands. But be careful, those fireballs are difficult to control and seem to bounce in random directions no matter how hard you try to aim (cannot be used to destroy the sunflowers). The effect ends once you step out of the garden.

Somnius is once again recovering from a devastating blow. Buildings need to be restored to their former glory and the emotional turmoil of the previous weeks surely needs to be alleviated. What better way to lighten the mood than a little fun for the whole family? A new arcade has appeared in town, beckoning residents with its stone doors set wide open.
With multiple levels, a variety of games and even a snackbar, Appl3 Pi Arcade is sure to be a hit!
Of course, as with everything that ever happens in Somnius, the arcades appearance is not without some complications. For one, playing the games inside might see characters teleported into the machine itself, perfectly pixelated to fit the game they're in. Hope you weren't about to fight the final boss, because now you might be fighting for your life! The good news is, if you die in the game... you don't die in real life and are just popped back out into the arcade again.
Strange things happen outside the arcade too. Walking down the road you might suddenly see a healthbar pop up above someone's head. Are you supposed to fight them? Are they going to fight you? Best to be cautious and reach for any trusty weapons you have just in case. Weapons that have become pixelated and can be pulled seemingly out of nowhere like some kind of hammerspace. They are also prone to breaking and shattering into glimmering pixel pieces (your normal weapons are still intact, don't worry).
Boxes and pots around Somnius are somehow more breakable than usual, smashed open with a single swing of those pixel weapons and producing gold coins! What a shame gold coins aren't the currency here. But if you don't want to destroy more things around Somnius, why not try fishing instead? That seems safe - if not suddenly more difficult with the fishing minigame that popped up in front of you. Quick! Keep the fish icon in the green bar or you'll lose it!
All things considered? It's all relatively harmless fun up until-

Vaeros wakes up. For those new to town, this means nothing. For those that were here for the castle raid? They can rest assured that they're in for a surprise. The Overlord of Visium has finally awoken from his Hyalily induced coma and he is furious. A shout echoes from the castle:
A wave of magical energy sweeps through the town, shaking it to the very core. Miraculously, the destroyed buildings and any remnants of the forest onslaught are gone and returned to their usual state. Perhaps Vaeros shouting was just another tantrum, an empty threat?
Not quite.
The town has been restored, but the locals? They are nowhere to be seen - cowering in their homes and fleeing to the sanctity of the Church of the Moon in hopes of staying out of sight of Vaeros and Dreamers both. The once tame video game effects are now far more intense - monsters from within those games are now rampaging through the town. They seem to shift through buildings, but if they run face first into a Dreamer, they will find them very corporeal and very deadly.
Not only that, but the lines are starting to blur between reality and fiction again, the healthbar above your head flickering in and out, the monsters turning from pixel beasts to real, live animals that roam Somnius - both feral and not. One second you are walking through town, and the next you are stepping onto a platform that starts to break under your weight, demanding you jump to the next platform before you plummet into an odd, multicolored abyss.
And strangest of all is that music coming from the labyrinth, growing louder when you approach and fading out when you move away.
Welcome to the labyrinthum TDM! Characters will arrive depowered and with only their clothing, and will be given a satchel with a crystal pendant, a communication device, some water and bread and a magic potion. If they drink the potion, they will manifest an elemental, healing or animal transformation ability.
With the exception of Castle Vaeros, characters are free to go as they please, so feel free to place them in any of the locations available on the map. Yes, this includes the Labyrinth - though characters will not be able to clear the maze.
You can find more information about the game here. Any questions regarding the TDM can go under the comment below.
Jinora | The Legend of Korra
In the middle of the garden, there's a girl with short brown hair and flowing red and yellow robes. Her legs are crossed with eyes closed, fists lightly touching in front of her. Two blue arrows seem to be tattoed there and touch tips as she breathes in and then out. At a glance she seems peaceful and clam, though after several minutes the facade vanishes as she throws her hands.
"Ugh, I don't get it. I can't sense anything."
Standing up she brushed herself up, and rifled through the satchel and pulled out the bread and the potion that she had found. It was a pretty blue, and she was starting to get pretty thirsty. But she would need to ration her water until she knew where to find more.
"Well it does say drink me."
Enchanted Garden:
It hadn't taken long for Jinora to realize that her bending wasn't working, that she wasn't able to use the wind to help her over the obsticles that stood in her way, or use her spiritual projection to try and explore for the way out. So now she was simply forced to make her way through the garden in a manner similar to the exercises she'd always done with the spinning pannels as a child. She carefully mapped out her moves.
Assuming it is a simple maze then all she had to do was use Trémaux’s algorithm. The only problem was, that it also involved locks and having to find keys. It was almost too much to keep track of.
"If only there was someone else who could help look for the keys while I keep track of the direction we're going."
After all, she'd already started sketching out a small map on the note that had been left in her satchel.
Have at you!
Over the days that Jinora had been in the town, she'd learned to use the new healing powers that she'd gained to help others. She'd been pretty happy to discover them since in a way it made her feel a bit closer to her gran gran, Katara, who was one of the best water benders in the world. And even without her air bending, she was still agile and nimble enough that she was able to dodge and avoid the majority of the monsters.
And so even though it wasn't necessarily safe she was out looking for anyone that might be in need of help.
Have at You
But video games are very much a thing for her back home, so while Jinora is nimble in general, she'll find the girl with short cropped hair and what appeared to be a staff zooming around a monster, having a pretty grand battle.
She does notice Jinora though, and motions for her to move out of the way.
"Hey!" She calls out. "Might want to grab a weapon!"
no subject
"I don't want to hurt them. And I can't use a weapon."
It went against everything that Jinora had grown up believing. Non-violence, it was alright to fight and protect someone, but you should never harm another living being unless there was absolutely no other choice.
She was curious about how Luz was flying though, it didn't look like any kind of airbending that she'd seen. And it was even different than when Zaheer had managed to unlock flight.
"There has to be a way to calm them down."
no subject
Well, nuts.
Without a moment's notice, Luz tossed her glyph at one of the monster's heels, and plant glyph came to life, tangling the beast in vines before encasing it in an ice glyph. It looked fit to burst and then did so with the sound of a clinking coin and a triumphant chime. Luz raised her eyebrows a moment, shaking her head.
"They aren't real animals. I'd try to calm them in animal form if that could happen. But they're part of the illusion Vaeros created. They start as video game bosses, and then they turn real, but that's only until you defeat them!"
She stopped, hopping off her staff, that changed into a flying snake-like creature with cat ears.
"I'm Luz. Nice to meet you!"
no subject
That helped to ease Jinora's worry a little bit, but still left her very much confused since she had no idea who Vaeros was, or why he would make illusions like these things. And still she had no idea what a video game was.
"Jinora, it's nice to meet you too."
Looking over to where the creature was tangled in vines,
"So you're a water bender? How did you make the plants just appear like that? I've only seen that happen with spirit vines."
no subject
Considering that HAD actually happened a few months back and she and Eilonwy had to turn into animals to attempt to calm the animals down. It had been a pretty harrowing experience, and at least this was easier to just have to fight.
If you knew how, of course.
Luz was glad that the monster had disappeared after she'd defeated it: that let her know what she'd need to do to take out any more of the ones coming at them.
"Waterbender? No, that's magi-wait. Bender? You're from the same world as Korra, aren't you?!"

I apologize ahead of time for not specifically describing the glyph. I'll link to it next time!
No worries! I loved Owl house so I know the glyphs. I have a Raine journal tucked away.
Thank goodness, having to explaining glyphs over and over IC makes me a little lazy sometimes

Arrival
But still she turns up, because if nothing else it is akin to a muscle memory - something to do, in this lingering trap.
And then, on this day, she gasps. Of course. Of course, of anyone, it would be Jinora. She’s always been the one to find Korra before, why not now? And in a moment, Jinora will have much more to contemplate than a potion - namely Korra running into her with speed, sweeping her up into the air in a hug.
“Jinora!” She exclaims, eyes squeezed tight. It helps hold back the tears.
no subject
"Korra! You're here."
Granted Jinora wasn't exactly sure where here was, but if Korra was here then things were sure to be alright. Jinora returned the hug.
"I'm so glad to see you. I was really worried."
no subject
"Hey, yeah, I am. And so are you. And...yeah, it's weird, and it's gonna sound even weirder than usual. But it's ok, and you're ok, that's the important thing to know."
no subject
"Korra, something's wrong. I can't use my bending, and I can't sense any spiritual energy at all from this place."
It was scary, like when they'd seen Amon taking away the bending from others. For Jinora being an Airbender had been her whole life, and now when she was in some strange new place she couldn't seem to connect to it at all.
"Where are we?"
no subject
"Yeah, that's...what happens here. Whatever abilities we have are taken away on arrival. We can gain them back, so don't worry - they're not gone forever or anything."
She points at the flask.
"That one gives you an ability," she says. "Healing, I think, for the blue ones? In some form, it's pretty weird - but the where's a bit more complicated. It's another universe. Well, maybe. One of my friends here calls it a 'pocket dimension' which...doesn't matter. It's...elsewhere."

Secret (Enchanted) Garden
Her voice calls from nearby, almost hidden in the grass with her trademark green outfit. She doesn't recognize Jinora, of course. Why would she? Taller, a little bit older, she seems like she can figure it out right?
Toph's just laying back, arms folded behind her head and staring up at nothing with those faintly pale green eyes. Not being very helpful, is she? Really playing up that bratty young teen image for fun.
no subject
"You know we'd both get out of here a lot quicker working together."
But when she actually saw the other girl, and took a good look she paused a moment. No shoes, earth kingdom clothes, hair pulled up and back, blind.
"Toph? Is it really you?"
no subject
She was acting all nonchalant and mysterious. She could probably find a metal key pretty easily, if she wanted to. But there isn't much else to do here and it's fun to mess with new people.
But then she hears her name, and she sits up, brows furrowing.
"Huh?... And who are you? You know me?!"
no subject
She'd been warned about this, but it was still so strange to see someone that she'd met as a old woman that was now almost the same age she was.
"I'm Jinora. I'm an airbender, and a friend of Korra's from Republic City. But I guess you wouldn't know about that either since it wasn't around during the hundred year war."
Jinora wondered how much she should actually say. How much would Toph really want to know about the future?
no subject
"Why is it just me and Zuko from my time!?" She huffs in frustration, blowing out some air to blow her bangs to one side. "I know Korra. We've both been here a while."
Lucky perhaps for Jinora, Toph doesn't need the explanation.
"So... You're what. Twinkle-toes' daughter? Grand-daughter?" How far back are we talking here.

Lean to a wrap here? :>
arrival
[The young boy with the deer ears and antlers says. It's unnerving and strange for him, like something is definitely wrong with him. With his usually natural ability to smell and hear better. To see better. Even his coordination, his agility isn't what it used to be but he hasn't quite figured that yet. It's mostly his senses that he notices seem dulled for some reason, somehow.]
no subject
[As far as her other senses went they seemed to be fine. But she was beginning to realize more and more that this was not the spirit world, or her world. She glanced over at the boy who had approached her, standing up and brushing herself off.]
I don't either, but we need to keep calm. Maybe if we look around a little we can find answers to what's happening.
I'm Jinora by the way, what's your name?
no subject
[He did fall from that bridge, into the flowers. But he doesn't think that would make him sick? He's a hybrid so he's immune to that stuff? Right? Or, he's supposed to be. His ears shift as he listens, as she gives her name.]
Jinora. I'm Gus. Um, did you see a big man? Or a girl a bit older than me? I was with them just before....
no subject
[She wasn't entirely certain what Gus was, but he looked human, though it did look like a spirit had caused him to change a bit and the animal aspects were pretty interesting.]
Are they friends of yours?
no subject
[Gus is one of the hybrids that looks mostly human, besides the antlers and his ears that is. Some others look much more obviously like their animal. So it definitely varies between hybrids on how human or not they might initially appear. Especially if they are trying to disguise themselves to appear human. Which might be easier for some than others.]
So you don't know if your friends are here either? Maybe we can look together?

GARDEN TIME (Sorry I'm late)
This place, she decides, cannot possibly annoy her further.
Or so she thinks, until she finally manages to unlock a door and finds herself behind yet another wall of flowers, with another keyhole. One that will no doubt also require her to hunt it down.
And this time, there's somebody else trapped with her. Somebody with an uncannily familiar face, and-
And an arrow tattoo.
Her eyes narrow, but her voice is almost venomously sweet.
"And who might you be?"
no subject
Lowering the paper to her side, Jinora raised her other hand in a small wave, offering a smile and kind tone in return. She'd heard stories about lord zuko's sister but had no idea what she looked like, so didn't recognize the girl in front of her.
"Oh hi, I'm Jinora. I'm kind of a new arrival."
no subject
The momentary glimpse of sarcasm fades back into that same smile again.
"Now, I believe we were trying to get out of here."
no subject
Jinora had noticed the momentary slip, but just figured it was probably due to being lost in the maze. She could understand how it might make someone cranky or mad, especially with having to constantly hunt for keys. Finding the 'locked' sunflower she marked it before starting to look around.
"There should be one nearby. Though it'd be a lot easier to figure out which way to go if I could just get a higher vantage point."
