TDM #10

Arrival / Enchanted Garden

Whether it be sleep or death, you feel your eyes close, and as your body begins to let go, you see a barn owl that is flying through the darkness, soon sweeping you across the clouded sky. You feel yourself mouth the words, “I wish, I wish..” and utter your deepest and darkest desire.

When you regain consciousness, you’ll find you are in an unfamiliar place with no recognition of how you arrived here. You have the clothes on your back, but nothing else. No weapons and if you had a particular superpower, you’ll notice it is missing. All you have is a satchel with a piece of bread, a vial of water, and a potion. The potion could be red, blue or golden. There are no instructions about these potions other than two words: Drink Me.

Will you drink it or not?

There is a parchment, handwritten in scrawling, jagged lettering that seems a bit... ominous:

“Welcome to my Labyrinth. Your CONTRACT is SEALED.”

You’re in a garden, surrounded by flowers and plants– most of which you cannot identify. However, there are a few that you can make out: Sunflowers and Hibiscus. You’ll soon find out that being around the Sunflower makes it difficult to pass through the already disorienting garden, even with the light guiding you. Where patches of them grow, even if only waist-high, you cannot pass through them, over them, or even destroy them to get them out of your way. In each grouping that blocks your path, there is one that has a key-shaped opening in the middle of the flower. Maybe the key is nearby? (Spoiler: it's probably under a rock nearby that you forgot to check!) The hibiscus offers an entirely different effect - inhaling the pollen grants you the temporary ability to shoot fireballs out of your hands. But be careful, those fireballs are difficult to control and seem to bounce in random directions no matter how hard you try to aim (cannot be used to destroy the sunflowers). The effect ends once you step out of the garden.

It's Dangerous to go Alone! Take This.

Somnius is once again recovering from a devastating blow. Buildings need to be restored to their former glory and the emotional turmoil of the previous weeks surely needs to be alleviated. What better way to lighten the mood than a little fun for the whole family? A new arcade has appeared in town, beckoning residents with its stone doors set wide open.

With multiple levels, a variety of games and even a snackbar, Appl3 Pi Arcade is sure to be a hit!

Of course, as with everything that ever happens in Somnius, the arcades appearance is not without some complications. For one, playing the games inside might see characters teleported into the machine itself, perfectly pixelated to fit the game they're in. Hope you weren't about to fight the final boss, because now you might be fighting for your life! The good news is, if you die in the game... you don't die in real life and are just popped back out into the arcade again.

Strange things happen outside the arcade too. Walking down the road you might suddenly see a healthbar pop up above someone's head. Are you supposed to fight them? Are they going to fight you? Best to be cautious and reach for any trusty weapons you have just in case. Weapons that have become pixelated and can be pulled seemingly out of nowhere like some kind of hammerspace. They are also prone to breaking and shattering into glimmering pixel pieces (your normal weapons are still intact, don't worry).

Boxes and pots around Somnius are somehow more breakable than usual, smashed open with a single swing of those pixel weapons and producing gold coins! What a shame gold coins aren't the currency here. But if you don't want to destroy more things around Somnius, why not try fishing instead? That seems safe - if not suddenly more difficult with the fishing minigame that popped up in front of you. Quick! Keep the fish icon in the green bar or you'll lose it!

All things considered? It's all relatively harmless fun up until-

But Enough Talk, Have At You!

Vaeros wakes up. For those new to town, this means nothing. For those that were here for the castle raid? They can rest assured that they're in for a surprise. The Overlord of Visium has finally awoken from his Hyalily induced coma and he is furious. A shout echoes from the castle:

"Did you think you had won, dear Dreamers? Did you think you had bested me? Go, play your games, but know that there is only one winner here, and it is me."

A wave of magical energy sweeps through the town, shaking it to the very core. Miraculously, the destroyed buildings and any remnants of the forest onslaught are gone and returned to their usual state. Perhaps Vaeros shouting was just another tantrum, an empty threat?

Not quite.

The town has been restored, but the locals? They are nowhere to be seen - cowering in their homes and fleeing to the sanctity of the Church of the Moon in hopes of staying out of sight of Vaeros and Dreamers both. The once tame video game effects are now far more intense - monsters from within those games are now rampaging through the town. They seem to shift through buildings, but if they run face first into a Dreamer, they will find them very corporeal and very deadly.

Not only that, but the lines are starting to blur between reality and fiction again, the healthbar above your head flickering in and out, the monsters turning from pixel beasts to real, live animals that roam Somnius - both feral and not. One second you are walking through town, and the next you are stepping onto a platform that starts to break under your weight, demanding you jump to the next platform before you plummet into an odd, multicolored abyss.

And strangest of all is that music coming from the labyrinth, growing louder when you approach and fading out when you move away.

OOC

Welcome to the [community profile] labyrinthum TDM! Characters will arrive depowered and with only their clothing, and will be given a satchel with a crystal pendant, a communication device, some water and bread and a magic potion. If they drink the potion, they will manifest an elemental, healing or animal transformation ability.

With the exception of Castle Vaeros, characters are free to go as they please, so feel free to place them in any of the locations available on the map. Yes, this includes the Labyrinth - though characters will not be able to clear the maze.

You can find more information about the game here. Any questions regarding the TDM can go under the comment below.

i. arrival

[The revving of chainsaws. A desperate scream. Then: silence.

Gogol wakes up, sprawled on the ground. It doesn't take him long to get the idea: he's not in Yokohama anymore. Springing to his feet, he inspects the satchel with great curiosity. The parchment is...]

Oh, my. [His tone is low, curious, almost impressed.] Haha! [And it rebounds into joviality.] How exciting!

[Folding it up, he tosses it back in the bag and reaches to shove the whole thing into the fabric of his cloak.

Unsurprisingly for any onlookers but Gogol himself, nothing happens.]

...Eh?? [He pushes it into the cloak repeatedly. All it does is push through at the other end.] Eh?!

ii. enchanted garden

[You may be trapped by sunflowers. You may not be alone. You may be unfortunate enough to end up with the clown for company. He swivels around to face you - perhaps you arrived early enough to see his futile attempts at kicking down the flora.]

It's time for a game of hide and seek!

[He hates this, for the record, the feeling of being caged. He doesn't let it show. He smiles brightly.]

Ready?

iii. take this!

[A health bar appears above Gogol's head. He glances up towards it, and looks to whoever's coming towards him, eye sharpening. Maybe some music can be heard, dimly in the distance.]

Oh, my. Does this mean we have to fight?

[He's unarmed, but for some reason, he doesn't seem all too worried about it.]

1. Arcade Opening
VIDEO - UN: KODZUKEN

A perhaps familiar (or unfamiliar) face appears on the screen, the background a blur as he turns with the camera facing him selfie style. Pudding-coloured hair, sharp intimidating cat-like eyes and angular features. Yup, that’s Kenma.

“Hey…” Kinda quiet, but he’s trying. “So… I’ve been saving up for a bit and uh. Well, I’ve got an arcade open if anyone wants to come play games.”

Look at that, he even manages a small, smile. The background eventually resolves, showing an alley through the towns stonework with a suspiciously glowing door tucked away, almost like a secret hideout.

“I think there’s a few strange glitches outside, the boxes in the alley feel like they’re digital. Uh… Feel free to break them. I tried and they respawn after an hour. But sometimes there’s a shard or two inside? Or some candy.” Strange.

He has no idea how far these effects will go.
2. Do you believe in the USER’s? - (Getting TRON’d) CW: Forced Digitization
It’s all fun and games at the arcade. Until it’s not. Then it’s all games.

Whether it’s a game you were playing at that moment or just happened to be walking by, there’s a flash of light as the machine seems to whirr to life and a beam shoots down to hit you! In a matter of moments, you’re scanned and pulled into the game.

WELCOME TO THE SYSTEM

Is it a Light-Wall-Racer (that’s totally not a light-cycle rip off)? A gladiator-esque battle game? Some kind of sidescroller beat-em-up? Whatever it happens to be, you’re suddenly inside the game itself! Even your clothes may have changed to match.

But at least you’re not alone. There’s a very weary pudding-haired guy nearby, looking over your way with a blink of surprise.

“Ah… you too huh?”
3. A cat on your shoulder
Kenma loves video games, and having the arcade has been taking up a lot of his time lately. He isn’t around town very often the first few days. New game enthusiasm, right?

Those who visit the arcade might see him around, whether they realize it or not. There’s a calico-patterned housecat that seems to prowl around inside the arcade sometimes, hopping up to the seat beside players to watch them. Or perhaps lounging over the top of a retro arcade console to leeean down and peek at how you’re going.

Seems pretty normal, probably nothing to worry about, just the arcade’s resident cat. Those familiar with Kenma’s cat form will be able to recognize him easily enough despite the sometimes odd lighting.
4. Who’s that Running?
You hear it before you see it. An energetic, frantic song playing in the air. No, right in your ears!

By the time you figure out what direction it’s coming from you’re just in time to see Kenma scampering around the corner like a cat skittering around a corner on tiles. Wearing a strange blue armour, you might question what he’s running from when a giant armoured mech whirrs onto the street behind him, locking video game esque lasers on to try and shoot the scampering cat. Ducking and diving for his life!

“RUN!” He shouts, heading your way because there’s NO WHERE else to go.

Feel free to join him in escaping, his mega-esque powers are no help here! Or if you’re feeling punchy, please rescue the panicking guy!

[Take This!]

[Anna already did the whole arrival schtick at the tail end of the previous TDM, so now, let's assume she's been around for a short while already, and holds some more knowledge about how things work here. She's found a change of clothes that's more casual than her royal garb. She was just starting to understand the basics.

And then the arcade happens.

She doesn't know what to make of the health bars, or the weird flat weapons some people seem to have. As she walks through the streets, her eyes are on her surroundings, taking in every suspicious sight she can catch a glimpse of. It ensures her foot hits a breakable pot as she walks, sending it flying through the air. It smashes on the ground with a loud noise, leaving behind a comically large gold coin that's about as big as the pot itself was. How did that even fit???]

Oh! Oh no, I'm so sorry, I- [She looks around helplessly, fixing her gaze on the person closest to her.] Was that yours? Did I uncover your secret savings?

[Have at you!]

[Not long after, Anna can be seen facing off against an enormous white, pixelated wolf. It's the sort of creature that should not be as big as it is, but here they are. Anna's managed to get her hands on pixelly sword, but since she doesn't actually know how to fight with it, it's more of a bluff than anything else, aimed towards the wolf and towards herself. If she just slashes it a few times, that'll be enough, right?]

Stay back! I'm warning you! [Sure enough, she tries to take a swing with the sword, only to lose her balance and hop clumsily on one foot.] OoooOOOOoooh! Oop! No, I'm good! I've got this!

[She has not got this.]

[Network prompt | Video]

Username: Anna

[A certain god of mischief explained to Anna how the Oracle device works, and she's ready to use it! Though, when she stares into the camera, it's with an expression that shifts between serious and nervous. She's addressed crowds before, but this feels.... different. One hand quickly tucks a lock of hair behind her ear.]

Ah... Hello, everyone. My name is Anna. It's very nice to meet you all! I'm... new here, I guess is the right word for it. Sorry if I'm doing this wrong; I've never used technology like this before. And I'm a little overwhelmed by this place. Just a smidge. But I'll be fine! I'm fine.

[She draws in a deep breath through her nose to steady herself, hoping to keep herself focused on the task at hand.]

Aaanyway, I wanted to ask you about these little magic potions. I know it's probably safe to drink the one I got. [...] Right? That's safe? But how easy is it to control the magic that you get? How do you even find out what you got in the first place? [She huffs, looking a little hesitant as her gaze slides towards the side.] I... I don't know, I don't have any experience with having any magic of my own, and being gifted powers like this when you're older just feels a little weird to me. I just don't want to do something that I'll come to regret.

Ah... Thanks in advance! And stay safe, everyone! There's some really weird monsters out there.

Hythlodaeus | FFXIV | New Player, 7Dead CRAU

[personal profile] ktizo 2024-07-01 02:32 pm (UTC)(link)
Arrival

Hythlodaeus had only meant to get some sleep, ready to face another day in the strange city he had found himself in. Instead, he wakes after a strange dream... his deepest wish uttered, I wish I could go home with Emet-Selch. It felt oddly final, important in some manner.

When he wakes, he feels strangely vulnerable. The very apparent loss of his powers is confusing and alarming. He can't heal, he can't teleport, he can't create- he can't even shift his sight to behold the souls of others. What's more, he doesn't appear to be in the city anymore. Is there another part of the world he never knew about? It's hard to say, given there was no information to be found on even the city they were in.

"Hello?" Hythlodaeus calls out, hoping someone familiar will answer. Surely if he's here, then others could be here as well.

Enchanted Garden

With the items he'd found on his person at hand, Hythlodaeus starts to make his way through the garden. The vial labelled only 'drink me' has caught his attention in particular, but he feels it unwise to drink it without knowing the effects. The sunflowers prove to be a challenge up until he notices the keyholes, and after that it's simple enough to find the keys needed to pass. The light he's following seems reassuring somehow, and he wouldn't want to lose it.

Of course, he does end up inhaling the hibiscus pollen. And when he sneezes and shoots several fireballs from his hands without meaning to, he exclaims loudly and winces at the destruction they've brought upon the garden- though irritatingly enough, the sunflower patch he hit is alive and well.

"Goodness. What resilient flowers."

Take This!

Being from a world that didn't have them, Hythlodaeus has no idea how to play an arcade game. He doesn't even know what one is, despite his time at the city of 7. But that doesn't mean he can't be staring, confused, at the bar that has appeared above the head of the stranger passing him.

"What does it mean...?"

Forgive him, because he'll be approaching and waving a hand through the bar as if expecting it to go away upon doing so.

Have At You!

Hythlodaeus knows he can't fight without his powers. His bow and arrows are gone, and even if they weren't, he relies on creation magicks to create more arrows in the first place. How can he fight with no weapon? With no magic? He's since given in to curiosity and drank the liquid inside the blue vial, but the strange yet familiar power that courses through him now isn't enough to do more than heal a paltry scrape or two. And without his soul sight, he can't even offer help in finding people quickly to bring to safety.

But there's no time to dwell on it. A monster with more legs than strictly necessary bears down upon him, and all he can do is scramble away. Some help would be wonderful.

Arcade game gains

[personal profile] justdontgiveame 2024-07-01 02:46 pm (UTC)(link)
Hey mods, quick question!

If a character gains something (items/monsters/a status effect) in the game they're playing, does that gain transfer with them once they're back in Somnius? I'm specifically thinking in terms of Persona/SMT where characters gain monsters to fight alongside them. Would the gains just vanish once the characters wake up back in the arcade? Would they last for the duration of the TDM (or would they vanish after X minutes/hours/IG days]?

Liu Qingge | SVSSS | New Player

[personal profile] qideficiency 2024-07-01 02:56 pm (UTC)(link)
1. Arrival

Wishes, Magic and the like, whilst not impossible were definitely not something that were quite so similar here than from where Qingge was from.
In fact, there were a lot of differences that could be derived from that statement alone.
Qingge knew however, that it was unlikely that whatever wish he uttered before he came to consciousness would come true.

Feeling around in the satchel that was slung around his waist, Qingge takes out a container that holds a potion...What kind of joke was this?
It didn't seem like tea. It didn't seem like water, and it didn't look like alcohol of any kind but a mysterious liquid without a name, labelled with an order to be drank.

But could he be sure it was safe? What if it were poison?

The air around him smells floral, something he has had the joys of smelling often...But with a different scent to it.
He can't quite recognise anything here, so a look of confusion and slight frustration takes over his expression.

He must look silly, idly standing there within a garden, holding a vial with an unknown liquid and appearing like it had offended him from existing...

2. Take this.

It had only just occurred to Qingge that he didn't quite know what all of these things were, never mind trust them, because they simply hadn't existed within his time, but perhaps he couldn't quite help himself when he saw the little CO-OP street-fighter like game on one of the levels, and let his curiosity get the best of himself.

The mechanics for what he knew were simple, you press a few of those...Smooth buttony things, and the character would do movements, however the last thing he expected was to be teleported into the machine itself!

It was like they had taken everything from him, replaced it, and shoved him into a new world! It was like several phases of whiplash had crawled over him.

Before him, stood another 'player', Qingge wasn't as good at fighting with his fists than he was with a sword -- Which he didn't have nevermind that, or Qi, but he certainly knew what he had to do. He also didn't know what the outcome would be if he failed, the unknown, like that, was incredibly scary...But this would also definitely be somewhat entertaining.

It gave him a chance to finally test his skills.

3. Have at you.

Qingge doesn't quite know how long he has been running.
One minute, everything was fine, the next minute his mind was screaming at him to go, lest he plummet into a multicoloured abyss and fall to his doom.
His jumps are calculated, but he only does so at the last minute as he finds his ankles ache more the more that he goes.

Well, this is terrifying.

Much more than a lot of things surprisingly, like the live animals roaming this place.

Just as he's about to take another jump, Qingge misses as his ankle catches on the edge of the platform and almost misses, he grabs onto the edge and clings on for dear life, trying to pull himself up.

Monsters are Erichthonios's specialty. Even if they're crazy looking, weird and make absolutely no sense. He had to stomp on walking and angry looking chestnuts to find his way, keep his eyes on a weirdly shy ghost to stop it from following him around and there was a weird plant that had to be reflected the nuts he shot in his direction. Erich felt like a idiot holding a pot lid like a shield, but it did save his life.

He's... been trying to help, really. Mostly studying how cretures work and trying to keep in mind patterns. He's not entirely sure he can make a comprehensive guide, especially considering he's been a rather solitary person since he arrived there but... maybe he can start being useful?

A familiar robe catches his eye, black like his own and not white like Venat, and before he knows he already dropped his notebook and proceeded to wield his arm. A branch. Tossing it toward the large creature.]

Every single one of those seems to have a weird gymmick! Don't be afraid, the trick is just finding them!

[Does he recognize the other man? Absolutely not. But he does recognize one of his people, at least. And now he's weaponless... But at least he hopefully got the thing's attention.]

Finnick Odair | The Hunger Games | New Player (7dead CRAU)

[personal profile] odare 2024-07-01 03:17 pm (UTC)(link)
i. Arrival: cw alcohol use

Eren disappeared, quite literally, overnight.

Finnick fell asleep tangled up in his partner, in their little apartment in the City of 7, and awoke to an empty, cold bed.

He figured Eren was probably out training. But the day wore on with no sign of him, so he went to text him, and… Couldn’t find his username.

Desperately and in denial, he asked his friends what this meant, and they confirmed that yes, it meant he had been taken back to his home world.

Finnick was inconsolable. He immediately began to drink, and eventually Sebastian had to come over to check on him because his messages were so worrying.

It’s a day later, still steeped in this grief, that he falls asleep and dreams of a barn owl, finds himself uttering his wish to be with Eren again. In any world, any world at all.

When he wakes, he’s still alone, but… He’s somewhere new. His chest aches as he looks around. He’s in some kind of garden. Is this a dream…?

ii. Garden

Finnick is wandering aimlessly. There’s this light orb thing he’s trying to follow, but as he tries to move through some flowers, he’s instead stopped abruptly by them. He blinks, confused. No matter what he tries, the flowers seem to form a barrier blocking the path. Wandering back the other way, he walks through some other kind of flower, and suddenly his hands are aflame. Once the shock of that wears off and he realizes it’s not painful, he wonders if he could burn through the sunflowers. He hurls a flaming ball at them, but they are unaffected.

“Huh.”

iii. Fishing minigame

Finnick will take any opportunity to go fishing, and while he’d prefer to do it on a boat, for now he can be found at the edge of Lake Omen on a small dock.

However, when he casts his line, some kind of hologram appears in front of him, startling him. He almost drops his rod in the water, but makes a dextrous save. There’s a green bar and what looks to be a crude picture of a fish, and when he reels in, the bar moves…

“What the fuck…?”

iv. Beach episode

As Finnick settles into the town, he sets out to find bodies of water, and aside from the lake, he also finds a beach. He’s never seen anything like it: the sand is dark blue. What the fuck, what the fuck, that’s so cool. That’s so cool!!!

Finnick goes down to this beach every couple of days. You might see him strolling the town in nothing but shorts and sandals and holding a towel. He’s probably smiling and is very open to conversation. Or perhaps you encounter him on the beach, where he could be doing any manner of beach activity.

Night Sky has had a rough couple of... months? Years? Centuries? Whatever. The past few months have been even more trying than usual, to the point even she could not keep up her usually cheery attitude even in the face of all the bullshit they regularly suffered in Somnius.

It was rare that she could unlatch herself from her various lovers after what transpired the weeks before, but sometimes she managed it long enough to venture down to the beach to collect rocks. Rocks she intended to give to said lovers as gifts when she returned. She still needed a handful for Lehna, along with the carving she had been working on for her. How was she still gone...

Footsteps in the sand. Night Sky looked up, the jewels dangling from her antlers jingling softly with the motion. She was... mostly naked; covered in twining vines around her limbs and leaves upon her chest that were mostly for the sake of any children that happened down the beach. In her hand was an assortment of colorful stones that she was currently picking through to find the appropriate blue and reds she wanted.

"Hey." She said, head cocking slightly. "You new?"

arrival (in Somnius);

[Never mind how he managed to escape the Enchanted Garden (mysterious keys and...fireballs???) - Whelk enters Somnius with his mouth widely agape, brow heavily furrowed, clearly in a state of total shock (though, he looks a little offended, too?). For a few moments, he just stands there and stares - until he notices someone walking by.]

Hold on a minute! Yes - you. [Rather bossy, isn't he?] Sorry, yes. What in the Hell is going on?

multiplayer (isekai option);

[It's been an awfully long time since Whelk's found himself in an arcade. Something about the mix of futuristic, modern day, and classic games feels offensive. If it were up to Whelk, they'd all be from a certain time (the decades preceding, etc.). The familiar sound of frantic button-smashing and electric "dings" flood his ears between sizzling whispers. He rolls his head, willing it all away.

[No use.

[He finds a game. The glowing banner boasts "HUNT THE LINE" with an eerie backdrop - a full moon, partially obscured by the silhouette of a forest. His hands find themselves over the controls, mouth falling slightly open as he stares.

[Multiplayer only. He glances to his right.]

Excuse me. [He nods toward the empty controls.] If you don't mind.

PARKOUR PARKOUR;

[Not much to be said about it, really. Nothing makes sense, and the world is a video game. Czerny would have loved it. Whelk is angry at him on principle.

[He's just walking through town - this town, that he's suddenly in - trying to get to wherever he's going, and all of a sudden, he's walking on a platform - NO, JUMPING from platform to platform--

[Yeah. He crashes through to the ground, landing flat on his back. OUCH. Don't mind him lying on the ground, groaning.]

Aughh-- For the love of God!

[ Somnius? Is in disarray once more. But Maruki? Is still on vacation, baby!

After a harrowing two weeks in the Forest of Dreams and being half of the duo that vanquished the Green Knight, some mandatory time off has been well-deserved. It's the first real break that Maruki has taken from his work in many long years. Is it strictly... necessary, at this point? No. The business district has been repaired, along with everything else in the town. His counseling office is fully functional again. His patient roster is only expanding, and people are all too eager to drop in and discuss the thrilling experiences of being mind controlled to fight against their friends or witnessing their memories play out in a mysterious lake. By all rights, he should return to business as usual, reopen the office earlier than anticipated now that the damage has been cleared and get back to work.

Or! He could continue on with his scheduled vacation, even in the face of new, 8-bit chaos.

After suggesting the beach that he's never visited to Eren, he's taken it upon himself to rectify this oversight and actually visit. It's summer! Why not?

And that's how Finnick will eventually find him: In swim trunks and a loose linen shirt provided by Vil, sprawled out on the same blanket that saw him through night after night at the lake these past weeks, shaded by a palm tree, nodding off into some philosophy book. The beach activity of a true nerd.

Ruin his nice, relaxing day.

PARKOUR!!!!!!!!!

[Finnick is walking behind Whelk as the sidewalk starts to turn into platforms. Soon there are gaps between them so the two of them have to jump across. Finnick gets a bad feeling about this. Surely it can't all be fun and games...

As if on cue, the platform in front of him shatters and the man ahead of him falls through it. Finnick peers urgently over the edge.]

You okay?!

[If his groan is anything to go by, the answer is no, so Finnick crouches and hops down off the platform he's on, into the weird dark space beneath, and offers his hand to Whelk.]

Similarly, Finnick is combing the beach as well, but he's looking for seaglass today. He's found a few pieces thus far, but keeps getting distracted by cool shells and the like, which he also can't help but pocket. He spots a fellow beach kleptomaniac up ahead, but doesn't recognize her. She's short and pretty, with pointed ears. Finnick's noticed that regular humans are actually something of a minority in this world, which is interesting.

"That I am," he says with a small smile. He seems pretty comfortable here, probably more comfortable than newcomers usually are.

"Find anything good?" He holds out his real hand to show her his small haul of shells and seaglass.

[ He'll do his best not to ruin it cutie pie!!!

Finnick is beachcombing, his eyes mostly downcast and scanning the sand intently, looking for seaglass. He does occasionally look up, and as he does, he spots someone laying under a tree, reading.

Wait a fucking minute. Is that Maruki?

He casually wanders closer. It is. It's Doc. Hard to recognize him in beach clothes, but that's the lanky, cute motherfucker, no doubt about it.

Hm. Hyth remembered Finnick from 7, but Eren didn't. So it's vaguely a 50/50 whether Maruki will know him. He at least looks like Finnick's Maruki, not substantially older, or younger like Eren is.

He moves as though he's just walking by a stranger, eyes still in the blue sand, then pretends to look up and only just now take notice of Maruki. ]

Good book?

"Welcome to Somnius." She said, hoping the slight disdain in her tone was not noticable. She was still bitter about a few things that happened recently - but she didn't hate the place entirely.

She glanced at his haul and chuckled, offering her own upturned palm for him to investigate. There was a smattering of blue stones with swirls of silver, and a smaller amount of red and gold toned ones. "A few things. I'm looking for specific colors, so it's a pain in the ass sometimes." She replied. "I'm Night Sky."

[OOC- I can match tagging styles as needed! Reach out on the game's discord for plotting, or if we're on Plurk, ping me there if there's anything specific you're wanting to do!]

01- Dangerous to go alone- I just got your messages!
[Puck knows arcades, even if he doesn't visit them that often. With the announcement of one opening, he headed in to visit it. The wall of games that met him was almost overwhelming but as he went to the lower level he saw a cluster of games filled to the brim with cabinet art that suggested nothing but a slow, easy time. Talking to game characters and from what it looked like, going on virtual dates? Easy.

As the game's opening finished, Puck sighed.] Networking in game form, it looks like.. Ah, it's starting!

[As the screen loaded what looked like an updated version of the Oracle's HUD, a group chat popped onto the screen- "Group Chat- Joined XXX Date, XXX Time". Messages loaded in from characters and.. it was benign chatting. One character bemoaning failing an exam and how Eternal Legends- whatever that was, being at fault. The other characters giving condolences. A specific prompt loaded-

"Hey, who's the new user? Hello newbie!" Followed by a stylized emoji of one of the characters waving. A response prompt popped up- "Hello!" or "Who are you guys?!"

Puck considered it and picked the second. As the confirm sound rang out, he vanished in a flash of light.

If your character follows him in, they'll be positioned at a round table, chatting with each other and the game characters themselves. Puck will need to gain 3 hearts (ooc- "IG "likes", here following this specific game's mechanics) to break out of the game itself and return to Somnius. I'm playing fast and quick with the conversation tree aspect, so I don't have to copy a lot of Messenger's transcripts. This will also carry into Somnius itself, where your character might have a "New message!" alert next to their health bar for a bit. It doesn't do anything when clicked though.]

01-02: Get ready for the next battle!
[Instead of a dating sim, Puck decided to go with a fighting game. It looked more fast paced, but that was fine. As the opening finished up and the character select screen loaded, Puck covered his ears suddenly as a very loud call befitting of any fighting tournament rang out: "Get ready for the next battle! Fist meets Fate Eight! A new challenger!"

The floor vanished and Puck remembered to fly before anything else could happen. The area re-wrote itself into a new form. Text popped up in front of him: "The Quick Moving Fae"

The announcer finished with all of the joy of anyone who loved their job. The hype train wasn't just real, it was full speed ahead as they announced loudly: "Puck!"

Puck looked around the area and lowered his hands when things quieted back down to dull roar levels before he went on alert. If this was a fighting game then there would have to be challengers.]
[ooc- Co-op in place here! Your characters can join him for a fight against other game characters, or against Puck if that's your jam. He really won't want to fight his friends, but does this game care about that? Not a bit!]

02- Have at you!- 01: Skeleton fights
[Once out of that whole game, and with an appreciation that none of the meetings at Xanatos Industries involves collecting metaphorical hearts, Puck had been exploring the city. Buildings are repaired, and that roar of anger from Vaeros wasn't ignored. Puck had actually had a laugh over it.

As he rounded a corner and almost ran into a whole skeleton soldier, Puck leapt into the air long enough to dodge. When he landed, he was holding a whip. He looked at the new weapon then towards the skeleton as an awkward stand off took place.

With a crack, Puck sent the whip towards the skeleton and watched as it landed. The skeleton flickered, but then became solid again as it raised its sword for a return blow.]

What the fuck indeed.

Inigo was just wandering up to the lake himself when he spots Finnick - and more importantly, whatever the hell is going on with Finnick right now. Inigo has seen a whole lot of strange things in this place over time, but this is a new one, and his eyes grow wide as he watches that.. very strange fish-image move..

He'd assume it was something Finnick was somehow doing, but considering the other sounds just as startled by it as Inigo feels, the young man's eyebrows knit together in concern as he jogs up to where Finnick is sitting on the dock.

"Hey, is everything alright here..?!"

Granted, this video game seems harmless. But considering Inigo is a medieval boy with zero idea of what a video game is, this all looks very concerning to him!

01- Dangerous to go alone- What if all of that was taken away?
[Eilonwy knows about games, but not this kind. Still, seeing Kenma had launched a business, she figured it would be nice to see how it was going and to congratulate him.

So after her morning chores, she'd headed into the arcade and spent a good amount of time just taking everything in. More lights and noise than she'd seen in a while, all of it trying to get her attention. She eventually settled on a rather calm game compared to others. The opening text crawl had caught her attention.

As it finished, noting that "Young men and women being lost in the Expanse", Eilonwy braced herself. It took a few minutes for her to figure out how to do the initial setup- naming the protagonist- "Eilonwy", easy enough, but the game was patient, all things considered. As the prologue played out and more characters were introduced, Eilonwy kept her guard up. As one character specifically performs a ritual and the setting of the game shifts into one populated with monsters, Eilonwy has the sensation of falling as she vanishes from the arcade.

When she wakes up, she's in a room she doesn't recognize with some soft music on loop. Eilonwy looks around in a mild panic.] Hello?!

[ooc- Eilonwy's been pulled into a MegaTen game, which will bring the Negotiation System to Somnius once she's out of it. Enjoy trying to talk [X monster] into being your fighting partner or giving you items! Eilonwy will need help either defeating a random fight or negotiating a contract with the monster Jack Frost specifically, because I think I'm funny!]

02- Have at you!- What can pixels do?
[Once she's out of the game, Eilonwy has been doing a mix of avoiding monsters and fighting ones that approach her. Her health bar is overhead but she ignores it as best that she can. She'll also be changing between her fawn and human form as needed.

While out one day, another monster approaches and Eilonwy moves to take out her short sword.. And finds it replaced with a blocky pixelated version. Still heavy, still usable, but not what she's used to. With a sigh, she adjusts her grip on the handle and waits for an attack to land.] Stop trying to attack everyone! Nobody means you harm!

[No one realizes just how often Eren comes to the beach. It's usually at night - after dinner, before wherever he ends up for bed. He collects shells for Armin.

[Still. Even after everything, he collects shells for Armin. They're hard to find in the dark. That's part of it, maybe. Only the really special ones stick out.

[The beach is usually empty by the time the sun goes down. Not so tonight, but that's fine. Eren will just mind his business. He passes the guy - mutters a quick:] Hey...

Maybe it isn't very noticeable, but Finnick still notices. He knows that kind of disdain very well.

"Thanks," he says, although there's a dryness in his tone and a knowing in his eyes.

He looks in awe at the beautiful stones she's found.

"Wow. These are good. Looking for blue and red? I can help."

He begins to walk with her in her direction, keeping eyes on the sand.

"Night Sky. That's a beautiful name. I'm Finnick."

Though Finnick was alarmed at first, the pieces start to click together in his head. His friends in 7 had introduced him to the concept of video games, and it hadn't gone completely over his head. He's been seeing things like health bars above people's heads in town and such, so it seems like some aspects of video games are part of real life here, at least right now, and this must be one of them.

A fishing game... Hm.

He hears fast footsteps clunking on the dock behind him, getting close. He turns to glance at the boy behind him.

"Yeah, it's okay, I think it's just one of those video game things."

The hologram makes a horrible noise, vibrates, and then disappears, indicating he lost the fish.

"I think it's trying to turn fishing into a weird game."
