TDM #10

Whether it be sleep or death, you feel your eyes close, and as your body begins to let go, you see a barn owl that is flying through the darkness, soon sweeping you across the clouded sky. You feel yourself mouth the words, “I wish, I wish..” and utter your deepest and darkest desire.
When you regain consciousness, you’ll find you are in an unfamiliar place with no recognition of how you arrived here. You have the clothes on your back, but nothing else. No weapons and if you had a particular superpower, you’ll notice it is missing. All you have is a satchel with a piece of bread, a vial of water, and a potion. The potion could be red, blue or golden. There are no instructions about these potions other than two words: Drink Me.
Will you drink it or not?
There is a parchment, handwritten in scrawling, jagged lettering that seems a bit... ominous:
You’re in a garden, surrounded by flowers and plants– most of which you cannot identify. However, there are a few that you can make out: Sunflowers and Hibiscus. You’ll soon find out that being around the Sunflower makes it difficult to pass through the already disorienting garden, even with the light guiding you. Where patches of them grow, even if only waist-high, you cannot pass through them, over them, or even destroy them to get them out of your way. In each grouping that blocks your path, there is one that has a key-shaped opening in the middle of the flower. Maybe the key is nearby? (Spoiler: it's probably under a rock nearby that you forgot to check!) The hibiscus offers an entirely different effect - inhaling the pollen grants you the temporary ability to shoot fireballs out of your hands. But be careful, those fireballs are difficult to control and seem to bounce in random directions no matter how hard you try to aim (cannot be used to destroy the sunflowers). The effect ends once you step out of the garden.

Somnius is once again recovering from a devastating blow. Buildings need to be restored to their former glory and the emotional turmoil of the previous weeks surely needs to be alleviated. What better way to lighten the mood than a little fun for the whole family? A new arcade has appeared in town, beckoning residents with its stone doors set wide open.
With multiple levels, a variety of games and even a snackbar, Appl3 Pi Arcade is sure to be a hit!
Of course, as with everything that ever happens in Somnius, the arcades appearance is not without some complications. For one, playing the games inside might see characters teleported into the machine itself, perfectly pixelated to fit the game they're in. Hope you weren't about to fight the final boss, because now you might be fighting for your life! The good news is, if you die in the game... you don't die in real life and are just popped back out into the arcade again.
Strange things happen outside the arcade too. Walking down the road you might suddenly see a healthbar pop up above someone's head. Are you supposed to fight them? Are they going to fight you? Best to be cautious and reach for any trusty weapons you have just in case. Weapons that have become pixelated and can be pulled seemingly out of nowhere like some kind of hammerspace. They are also prone to breaking and shattering into glimmering pixel pieces (your normal weapons are still intact, don't worry).
Boxes and pots around Somnius are somehow more breakable than usual, smashed open with a single swing of those pixel weapons and producing gold coins! What a shame gold coins aren't the currency here. But if you don't want to destroy more things around Somnius, why not try fishing instead? That seems safe - if not suddenly more difficult with the fishing minigame that popped up in front of you. Quick! Keep the fish icon in the green bar or you'll lose it!
All things considered? It's all relatively harmless fun up until-

Vaeros wakes up. For those new to town, this means nothing. For those that were here for the castle raid? They can rest assured that they're in for a surprise. The Overlord of Visium has finally awoken from his Hyalily induced coma and he is furious. A shout echoes from the castle:
A wave of magical energy sweeps through the town, shaking it to the very core. Miraculously, the destroyed buildings and any remnants of the forest onslaught are gone and returned to their usual state. Perhaps Vaeros shouting was just another tantrum, an empty threat?
Not quite.
The town has been restored, but the locals? They are nowhere to be seen - cowering in their homes and fleeing to the sanctity of the Church of the Moon in hopes of staying out of sight of Vaeros and Dreamers both. The once tame video game effects are now far more intense - monsters from within those games are now rampaging through the town. They seem to shift through buildings, but if they run face first into a Dreamer, they will find them very corporeal and very deadly.
Not only that, but the lines are starting to blur between reality and fiction again, the healthbar above your head flickering in and out, the monsters turning from pixel beasts to real, live animals that roam Somnius - both feral and not. One second you are walking through town, and the next you are stepping onto a platform that starts to break under your weight, demanding you jump to the next platform before you plummet into an odd, multicolored abyss.
And strangest of all is that music coming from the labyrinth, growing louder when you approach and fading out when you move away.
Welcome to the labyrinthum TDM! Characters will arrive depowered and with only their clothing, and will be given a satchel with a crystal pendant, a communication device, some water and bread and a magic potion. If they drink the potion, they will manifest an elemental, healing or animal transformation ability.
With the exception of Castle Vaeros, characters are free to go as they please, so feel free to place them in any of the locations available on the map. Yes, this includes the Labyrinth - though characters will not be able to clear the maze.
You can find more information about the game here. Any questions regarding the TDM can go under the comment below.

01- Dangerous to go alone- What if all of that was taken away?
[Eilonwy knows about games, but not this kind. Still, seeing Kenma had launched a business, she figured it would be nice to see how it was going and to congratulate him.
So after her morning chores, she'd headed into the arcade and spent a good amount of time just taking everything in. More lights and noise than she'd seen in a while, all of it trying to get her attention. She eventually settled on a rather calm game compared to others. The opening text crawl had caught her attention.
As it finished, noting that "Young men and women being lost in the Expanse", Eilonwy braced herself. It took a few minutes for her to figure out how to do the initial setup- naming the protagonist- "Eilonwy", easy enough, but the game was patient, all things considered. As the prologue played out and more characters were introduced, Eilonwy kept her guard up. As one character specifically performs a ritual and the setting of the game shifts into one populated with monsters, Eilonwy has the sensation of falling as she vanishes from the arcade.
When she wakes up, she's in a room she doesn't recognize with some soft music on loop. Eilonwy looks around in a mild panic.] Hello?!
[ooc- Eilonwy's been pulled into a MegaTen game, which will bring the Negotiation System to Somnius once she's out of it. Enjoy trying to talk [X monster] into being your fighting partner or giving you items! Eilonwy will need help either defeating a random fight or negotiating a contract with the monster Jack Frost specifically, because I think I'm funny!]
02- Have at you!- What can pixels do?
[Once she's out of the game, Eilonwy has been doing a mix of avoiding monsters and fighting ones that approach her. Her health bar is overhead but she ignores it as best that she can. She'll also be changing between her fawn and human form as needed.
While out one day, another monster approaches and Eilonwy moves to take out her short sword.. And finds it replaced with a blocky pixelated version. Still heavy, still usable, but not what she's used to. With a sigh, she adjusts her grip on the handle and waits for an attack to land.] Stop trying to attack everyone! Nobody means you harm!

Hi Eilowny!
[ Webby cheerfully slams down her blade on the nearest monster, and only after the blow is dealt does she happily wave at her friend. ]
Yeah, I don't think reasoning with them is going to work. We gotta put these bad boys down.
no subject
Webby, hello! They really don't seem open to talking at all.
[Webby's attack does 9 points of damage, which pop up as a cheerful "9!" in front of them. Eilonwy swings at the second skeleton in the area and watches as her sword connects. A cheerful "5!" pops up a second later. The two skeletons are each doing different things in retaliation. The first which Webby attacked, Skele-Ton is preparing to cast Helm Splitter. The second, which Eilonwy attacked Skele-Tad is biding its time.
If the spell is cast successfully on either of them, there's going to be a 25% decrease in defense for the next 2 turns. Eilonwy readies her sword again and looks to Webby for a second.]
Do you know what's going on?
no subject
[ She casually twirls her sword around, adding a bit of her electric magic to her blade before striking again. ]
And the fact that they think we need to wait their turn for attacks is insane.
no subject
[But then Webby mentions "wait their turn", Eilonwy thinks back to the game she'd played and it clicks.] Right, you take turns in games, of course they'd think that!
[But this isn't a game, and Eilonwy joins in, attacking the nearest skeleton. It's an even battle, even with the game mechanics of numbers popping up for each hit. Eilonwy tunes it out and focuses.] But we're not in a game now, it's just combat!
no subject
[ Said with complete cheerfulness as she decapitates a skeleton. She even has some fun balancing the head on her sword for a minute. ]
Heehee. If Dewey was here, he'd have made at least six different puns about bones and heads.
no subject
I don't think that any more of those skeletons will show up, but this isn't anything I'm used to.
[Eilonwy stays on alert, looking around idly.]
no subject
[ she still hates that dude and wishes she could have kicked his butt. ]
no subject
[Eilonwy relaxes, not seeing any other monsters coming out for an attack. She puts her sword away and then looks to Webby.] Did you have a fight with him, too?

02- What can pixels do?
Luz has thrown herself fully into the fantasy, taking out enemies with more direct efficiency. She's quick to "equip" her staff, and her magic is actually pretty effective once you made sure to select >Spell quickly enough.
"I don't think they'll be listening to you anytime soon though. I'm pretty sure they're meant to be beaten. At least it'll be easier that way?"
no subject
Eilonwy, still in deer form, just eases into a gallop around one of the enemies, trying to disorient it.
"It's much easier to dodge in this form, actually! You seem to be very good at dealing with this entire situation." With a flash, she changes back into her human form and quickly gets her short sword back out.
no subject
Real animals Luz would have had a fit over, but these things were definitely here to distract them, and she was not having that!
"We have things like these back home, to actually interact with," Luz confessed. "It's also helped I've been playing them on my off time with Kenma."
She waved her staff toward another approaching enemy, and the glyph exploded with a giant hand that seized the creature and pulled it into some other portal.
"OOPS. I thought I forgot the glyph combination for that one!"
It still creeped her out, and where exactly did that hand take you?!
no subject
As the hand just came out of nowhere and dragged the other enemy off to a void, Eilonwy's eyes widened. "That was amazing!"
The less she thought about where the hand was taking the enemy, the better, probably. Eilonwy moved to stand closer to Luz, sword at the ready.
no subject
"It helps when you know all the things you're fighting have no thought process other than to hurt you," Luz confessed. "I wouldn't even be using this glyph otherwise."
Yup, best not to think about it.
"Think you can cover the advancing flank of baddies?"
no subject
Eilonwy nodded and moved into position to do that, sword at the ready as she swung with confidence at the nearest approaching. "I can, yes! We can handle this, we're both good at what we can do." And a bit of confidence boosting because it never hurt.
no subject
They'd have to go through weak enemies like this to get to any enemy that was actually something of a challenge. It also helped that Eilonwy was here and had her sword at the ready. Luz didn't waste any time, dropping several glyphs that immediately shot out vines were entwining the middle approaching minions, and Luz followed it with a flame glyph that engulfed the ones tripped up, which at least ruined their formation.

"Eilonwy!"
[Wrong move. The creature's head swiveled towards her. Maybe, just maybe though, it would give Eilonwy the distraction she needed...]
Re: 02
[Too late, the skeleton had started to advance.]
no subject
[Bony arm raised to attack, swinging down towards her... till it was blocked with the pixelated shovel Chise held.]
"I'm not going to just leave you here, Eilonwy. Though it looks like you had things mostly handled."
[Even though the skeleton was still clearly standing, though smarting from Eilonwy's solid attack.]
no subject
[Eilonwy dashed forward and swung at the skeleton again. With a very video game "ping!" sound effect, the hit landed for a little more damage. The skeleton looked between the two girls and then raised its arm to swing at Chise again with a roar.]
no subject
"As much as I'm enjoying this, shall we finish it?"
no subject
[With another strike, the skeleton faded away in a pop of red light. Eilonwy relaxed and put her sword up after a second.] "Did it seem surprised to you?"
[Not that Eilonwy could read expressions on a skull, but she did notice the skeleton had hesitated when Chise arrived.]
no subject
[Her gaze softened.] "Are you alright? Not hurt anywhere?"
no subject
[Eilonwy checked herself over quickly and shook her head.] "No wounds, I think. How about you?"
