TDM #10

Whether it be sleep or death, you feel your eyes close, and as your body begins to let go, you see a barn owl that is flying through the darkness, soon sweeping you across the clouded sky. You feel yourself mouth the words, “I wish, I wish..” and utter your deepest and darkest desire.
When you regain consciousness, you’ll find you are in an unfamiliar place with no recognition of how you arrived here. You have the clothes on your back, but nothing else. No weapons and if you had a particular superpower, you’ll notice it is missing. All you have is a satchel with a piece of bread, a vial of water, and a potion. The potion could be red, blue or golden. There are no instructions about these potions other than two words: Drink Me.
Will you drink it or not?
There is a parchment, handwritten in scrawling, jagged lettering that seems a bit... ominous:
You’re in a garden, surrounded by flowers and plants– most of which you cannot identify. However, there are a few that you can make out: Sunflowers and Hibiscus. You’ll soon find out that being around the Sunflower makes it difficult to pass through the already disorienting garden, even with the light guiding you. Where patches of them grow, even if only waist-high, you cannot pass through them, over them, or even destroy them to get them out of your way. In each grouping that blocks your path, there is one that has a key-shaped opening in the middle of the flower. Maybe the key is nearby? (Spoiler: it's probably under a rock nearby that you forgot to check!) The hibiscus offers an entirely different effect - inhaling the pollen grants you the temporary ability to shoot fireballs out of your hands. But be careful, those fireballs are difficult to control and seem to bounce in random directions no matter how hard you try to aim (cannot be used to destroy the sunflowers). The effect ends once you step out of the garden.

Somnius is once again recovering from a devastating blow. Buildings need to be restored to their former glory and the emotional turmoil of the previous weeks surely needs to be alleviated. What better way to lighten the mood than a little fun for the whole family? A new arcade has appeared in town, beckoning residents with its stone doors set wide open.
With multiple levels, a variety of games and even a snackbar, Appl3 Pi Arcade is sure to be a hit!
Of course, as with everything that ever happens in Somnius, the arcades appearance is not without some complications. For one, playing the games inside might see characters teleported into the machine itself, perfectly pixelated to fit the game they're in. Hope you weren't about to fight the final boss, because now you might be fighting for your life! The good news is, if you die in the game... you don't die in real life and are just popped back out into the arcade again.
Strange things happen outside the arcade too. Walking down the road you might suddenly see a healthbar pop up above someone's head. Are you supposed to fight them? Are they going to fight you? Best to be cautious and reach for any trusty weapons you have just in case. Weapons that have become pixelated and can be pulled seemingly out of nowhere like some kind of hammerspace. They are also prone to breaking and shattering into glimmering pixel pieces (your normal weapons are still intact, don't worry).
Boxes and pots around Somnius are somehow more breakable than usual, smashed open with a single swing of those pixel weapons and producing gold coins! What a shame gold coins aren't the currency here. But if you don't want to destroy more things around Somnius, why not try fishing instead? That seems safe - if not suddenly more difficult with the fishing minigame that popped up in front of you. Quick! Keep the fish icon in the green bar or you'll lose it!
All things considered? It's all relatively harmless fun up until-

Vaeros wakes up. For those new to town, this means nothing. For those that were here for the castle raid? They can rest assured that they're in for a surprise. The Overlord of Visium has finally awoken from his Hyalily induced coma and he is furious. A shout echoes from the castle:
A wave of magical energy sweeps through the town, shaking it to the very core. Miraculously, the destroyed buildings and any remnants of the forest onslaught are gone and returned to their usual state. Perhaps Vaeros shouting was just another tantrum, an empty threat?
Not quite.
The town has been restored, but the locals? They are nowhere to be seen - cowering in their homes and fleeing to the sanctity of the Church of the Moon in hopes of staying out of sight of Vaeros and Dreamers both. The once tame video game effects are now far more intense - monsters from within those games are now rampaging through the town. They seem to shift through buildings, but if they run face first into a Dreamer, they will find them very corporeal and very deadly.
Not only that, but the lines are starting to blur between reality and fiction again, the healthbar above your head flickering in and out, the monsters turning from pixel beasts to real, live animals that roam Somnius - both feral and not. One second you are walking through town, and the next you are stepping onto a platform that starts to break under your weight, demanding you jump to the next platform before you plummet into an odd, multicolored abyss.
And strangest of all is that music coming from the labyrinth, growing louder when you approach and fading out when you move away.
Welcome to the labyrinthum TDM! Characters will arrive depowered and with only their clothing, and will be given a satchel with a crystal pendant, a communication device, some water and bread and a magic potion. If they drink the potion, they will manifest an elemental, healing or animal transformation ability.
With the exception of Castle Vaeros, characters are free to go as they please, so feel free to place them in any of the locations available on the map. Yes, this includes the Labyrinth - though characters will not be able to clear the maze.
You can find more information about the game here. Any questions regarding the TDM can go under the comment below.

01- Dangerous to go alone- I just got your messages!
[Puck knows arcades, even if he doesn't visit them that often. With the announcement of one opening, he headed in to visit it. The wall of games that met him was almost overwhelming but as he went to the lower level he saw a cluster of games filled to the brim with cabinet art that suggested nothing but a slow, easy time. Talking to game characters and from what it looked like, going on virtual dates? Easy.
As the game's opening finished, Puck sighed.] Networking in game form, it looks like.. Ah, it's starting!
[As the screen loaded what looked like an updated version of the Oracle's HUD, a group chat popped onto the screen- "Group Chat- Joined XXX Date, XXX Time". Messages loaded in from characters and.. it was benign chatting. One character bemoaning failing an exam and how Eternal Legends- whatever that was, being at fault. The other characters giving condolences. A specific prompt loaded-
"Hey, who's the new user? Hello newbie!" Followed by a stylized emoji of one of the characters waving. A response prompt popped up- "Hello!" or "Who are you guys?!"
Puck considered it and picked the second. As the confirm sound rang out, he vanished in a flash of light.
If your character follows him in, they'll be positioned at a round table, chatting with each other and the game characters themselves. Puck will need to gain 3 hearts (ooc- "IG "likes", here following this specific game's mechanics) to break out of the game itself and return to Somnius. I'm playing fast and quick with the conversation tree aspect, so I don't have to copy a lot of Messenger's transcripts. This will also carry into Somnius itself, where your character might have a "New message!" alert next to their health bar for a bit. It doesn't do anything when clicked though.]
01-02: Get ready for the next battle!
[Instead of a dating sim, Puck decided to go with a fighting game. It looked more fast paced, but that was fine. As the opening finished up and the character select screen loaded, Puck covered his ears suddenly as a very loud call befitting of any fighting tournament rang out: "Get ready for the next battle! Fist meets Fate Eight! A new challenger!"
The floor vanished and Puck remembered to fly before anything else could happen. The area re-wrote itself into a new form. Text popped up in front of him: "The Quick Moving Fae"
The announcer finished with all of the joy of anyone who loved their job. The hype train wasn't just real, it was full speed ahead as they announced loudly: "Puck!"
Puck looked around the area and lowered his hands when things quieted back down to dull roar levels before he went on alert. If this was a fighting game then there would have to be challengers.]
[ooc- Co-op in place here! Your characters can join him for a fight against other game characters, or against Puck if that's your jam. He really won't want to fight his friends, but does this game care about that? Not a bit!]
02- Have at you!- 01: Skeleton fights
[Once out of that whole game, and with an appreciation that none of the meetings at Xanatos Industries involves collecting metaphorical hearts, Puck had been exploring the city. Buildings are repaired, and that roar of anger from Vaeros wasn't ignored. Puck had actually had a laugh over it.
As he rounded a corner and almost ran into a whole skeleton soldier, Puck leapt into the air long enough to dodge. When he landed, he was holding a whip. He looked at the new weapon then towards the skeleton as an awkward stand off took place.
With a crack, Puck sent the whip towards the skeleton and watched as it landed. The skeleton flickered, but then became solid again as it raised its sword for a return blow.]
03- Wildcard
[Something else you'd like to do? Throw it at me!]
02- Have at you!- 01: Skeleton fights
He casts his line, and it wraps tightly around the skeleton's arm preventing it from slamming down against Puck. Though, all he could do was hold it back, he intended that the new person would destroy the skeleton outright with their whip. ]
((SOTN music just joining the party))
Thanks. I can't say I've fought skeletons before, but that wasn't horrible.
[Unfortunately, it was about to hit "horrible" levels very quickly. With a shriek, a pair of floating heads rose from the ground. Humanoid, with snakes for hair, moving in patterns that reminded Puck, of all things, of watching people play jump rope. The heads weren't on a straight path but were zig-zagging as the mood took them. Puck frowned and aimed a new attack at the nearest and almost landed, before the head just dodged.]
the way they are going 2 suffer XD
I have, but it never ends like this.
[ Each shrieking sound muffles the last of his sentence, and he is quick to move out of a heads way. The scraping of metal as his back hits against the wall, and he turns to avoid anything from slamming into his chest. He trusts nothing here, not knowing what sort of sorcery would disable him. ]
What is all of this? To what end do we fight for, what magic user is summoning these monsters?
no it'll be fine! XD
[The heads finish their path, turn, and simply repeat it back towards both of them. Puck growls and throws a blast of magic at the one approaching Lancelot. With some of the snakes turned into harmless plastic versions, Puck goes on defense and keeps an eye on the other as best he can.]
I don't recognize what game, but as long as we defeat them and then move, it should stop!

Dodging out of the way, Lancelot tries to ensure that the Medusa Skull does not reach him. Despite its shrieks and haphazard method of still nicking him, the Knight Manages. He moves to get into a position where he can unlatch the helm from his head, revealing the locks of ebony color hair highlighted in blues and bright aquamarine eyes. They soon shut and fade away into darkness when he pulls out a Gold flask and quickly drinks it away.
Instead, the figure now shifts from a man into a dragon with ebony-colored scales. Its size seems to heave against the pavement of the floor around them, and several Medusa heads hit against him leaving him in some pain. A pain that surprises the now dragon, but he is not remiss in the suddenness of it all. His head arches and with a loud SNAP, the head he bit, disperses into a cacophony of pixelated flames.
Moving, he does this over and over again. Without missing each head, however, with his newfound larger side, he is... A bit easier to hit... Was that really such a smart idea? ]
no subject
And then Lancelot just changes into a dragon and Puck flies into the air with a loud laugh at how the tide has changed. He watches as the heads are destroyed and gives a round of applause.] I don't think I've seen someone adapt that quickly to a potion! But.. [But as impressive as the other is, it really is the same as setting out a blinking light directing enemies towards him.] Wait, if you're going to use that kind of magic then I'll try to match it.
[Not that Puck is going to transform. He does however hold his hands out, palms up and concentrates as he calls-] Invisible! [As magic starts gathering in the form of green light, Puck grins.] They can't attack what they can't see, even a dragon.
no subject
There was some pride, in hearing Puck commend him for the ease in controlling this form. However, he does not answer the praises. Merely continue on with attacking, as each head attempts to pass by his dragonic form. It's here when Puck begins to summon magic at his fingertips, the green color coalescing at his hands.
At this point, Lancelot manages to be in a clearing, where he can easily deflect what comes his way. ]
Your sorcery is welcome, it would please me to see your skills in action. Bless me then, with your magics! Quickly, if we are to reign in these enemies and show this 'Game' you speak of our gains.
no subject
There you are, one invisibility spell. [Puck even makes a show of dusting his hands off with a grin.] We can still move, and everything else, we just won't be seen while doing it.

Get ready for the next battle!
CO-OP MODE Initiated. Welcome player 2!
[A digitized voice announced, to cheers within the game setting that came from...somewhere. At least the floor didn't drop out from under him, though Loki was less than thrilled with the city-scape. At least there was a familiar and welcome face in the form of Puck. Loki was about to make his way over when text popped up in front of him. ]
Trickster God Extraordinary!
[and then a gleeful announcer's voice called out "LOKI!" to more cheers. Loki sighed, and turned to look at Puck.]
Do I dare ask?
[He'd had to, hadn't he? At that point the announcer piped up again.]
That's right folks, it is now a TAG TEAM match!
no subject
[As the announcement was made that they were tag teaming, Puck looked around as their opponents showed up- an eager to fight blonde and a bespoke man in a suit. Both struck poses and looked ready to go. Puck stuck near Loki and didn't bother striking a pose or giving an opening line.]
Well! Should we take them one at a time or both in equal measure?
[Puck's health bar loaded in. Full and ready to go, much like it had been. There were even little jolts of electricity running up and down, more for show than anything functional. The important thing was that Puck still felt his magic at the ready, which was pretty entertaining, even with how weird things were getting.
He waited for Loki to pick their battle tactics and worked on metaphorically taking his gloves off. If it was a fighting game, he would fight.]
no subject
I believe tag-team implies one fighter at each time, and the partner is tagged in or out?
[So Loki smirked, mischief in his eyes, and bowed in an 'after you' gesture to Puck. He'd wait to be tagged in.]
no subject
[Puck grinned at the bow and then rocketed towards the tall blonde, who by then had gotten into a standard fighting stance. Puck threw a bolt of magic which sent his opponent stumbling back a bit dramatically. As blows were exchanged, Puck dodged what he could and used his magic over his physical strength.
True to fighting game logic, any attacks that landed looked like they hurt and did some damage to the health bar, but not enough to be a concern. With his powers not hampered, Puck zipped around and occasionally yelled a taunt just to make the other angry.
After a few minutes, though it felt like seconds, Puck flew back to Loki and landed behind him.]
Your turn, go have fun!
no subject
Smirking to himself, Loki may not have been an Asgardian, but he'd been raised as one. And they could be bloodthirsty, when young... Where Puck had gone magic, Loki went physical. Darting in quickly and feinting, then trading quick blows with the other via hand to hand. They looked like they hurt, but while the other's bar showed minimal damage, Loki's own showed none. That strange golden corona staying in place.
The other pulled out the weapon, a type of sword, and launched what was clearly meant to be a special attack of his own. It was enough to knock Loki back and that gold corona disappeared around his health bar.]
Bad decision.
[Loki gestured, and then darted forward once more. Followed by copies of himself--many of them, all engaged in hand to hand in complimentary ways with his original self before they vanished in shimmers of green. A type of rush-attack, meant to overwhelm and opponent temporarily.]
no subject
Puck landed back onto the ground and considered his options for his next round as he glanced to the blonde waiting on the outskirts for the next tag in. More magic would work, but maybe he would switch to more physical, just to keep things fresh.]
no subject
Which isn't to say Loki didn't take advantage of the opportunity to get some hits in himself. Several of them, followed up with a strong kick to knock his opponent back. Then, while keeping his eye on the other, Loki stepped back until he could hold out his hand for Puck to 'tag'.]
Your turn.
no subject
Puck reached out and tapped Loki's hand but it was Owen's voice that spoke up.] Of course.
[It really was a fun contrast. Owen's moves were quick, precise, and physical to Puck's rapid fire magic. Owen dodged, returned hits and kicks, and ended his round by body slamming the other blonde to the floor, doing a noticeable amount of damage. He made a show of adjusting his jacket before he turned back into Puck and flew back to the outer area.]
This seems to be going much faster than I was expecting! You're up!

01
"Puck-"
[Except for the fact that, as she approached, he disappeared in a flash of light. Blinking, she similarly found herself not in the arcade - but sitting around a round table... with mostly strangers.]
"Um... what's happening?"
(italics= game characters talking!)
[Meanwhile the game characters were chatting amongst themselves. Each one, surprisingly, even for Puck, was somehow more handsome than the next. Not that Puck was interested. He wasn't, and his heart was with Loki first.
But he knew smart marketing when he saw it. Xanatos had looked into music history once, Puck knew of the 'boy band phenomena' that had started with a pop band in the 1960s. This was the digital version, but with less music or screaming fans. One of the game characters- a redhead with glasses and a bag of potato chips grinned. A smile that any marketing company would be proud to put their name on.]
"Networking! You're into computers too? Oh hey you brought a friend! What's your name?"
[The character looked towards Chise and idly had some chips.]
(I'm rubbish at NPC responses XD and still ROFL about this)
[Chise's own appraisal of those seated at the table might have been a bit more blunt - while she wasn't blind to what other's might consider 'attractiveness'... she was already taken. Which leant a somewhat more comfortable confidence to her own demeanor.]
"Oh, I'm Chise. It's nice to meet you all... Networking... I don't work much with computers myself, but my teacher likes to use them for analogies."
[Truly, she couldn't count the number of times Elias had compared magic to an electrical network...]
(it's all good!)
"I'm Puck. Nice to meet all of you, too. But.. Where are we exactly?"
"Huh? This is our group chat! We're all members of the same club. It's kinda weird both of you joined, but the more the merrier." [Said the character with glasses, throwing in another welcoming grin. Puck cast a glance to Chise]
"Well, if we're not meant to be here, then we should probably just leave, I'd hate to be a poor guest!"
no subject
[She nodded in polite agreement with Puck's words.]
"Yes, we don't mean to intrude..." [She started to stand-]
"Boo, don't leave yet! You just got here!"
[One of the younger members - if she had to guess, from the way he tried to dress with suspenders and the fact his blonde hair was somewhat disheveled and wild - whined... even though he was only giving them periodic glances, his eyes glued to his phone as his fingers flew.]
no subject
[He stood and offered one of his hands to Chise.] "You shouldn't be able to do that." [Another member- someone with blue hair and a business casual outfit on, spoke up, eyes widening. Puck looked at his hand and then to Chise in confusion]
"What, stand up? It's a chair, not a pot of glue."
(Well, lots of dialogue not from Chise ^_^' do they just walk away or play the game? XD)
["This is why you shouldn't game and attend meetings at the same time. Or maybe just give up on the game entirely." Another member sighed, distinctive white hair pulled back. The group seemingly acting like 'normal' friends, from what Chise could tell, until Puck had made to stand up. She blinked as she accepted Puck's hand.]
"Right. We don't want to intrude."
[She noticed something strange then, as she stood up too. Something like a stagnant breeze, or the brief fall of rain that brought on a case of dread, encompassed the area then. Glancing over at Puck to see if he had seen it too.]
"Um..."
["No, no, it's totally fine if you stay!" The character with glasses, the one that had addressed them first, waved his hands almost frantically. "After all, I'm not sure how you got in here, but if you did... that must mean you have clearance. Or something."]
[Chise focused on Puck again, somewhat frozen. What was the best way to get out of here? Did they need to focus on this like the group in front of them was a potential threat? While they seemed friendly, there was something in their words that hinted at not telling the entire truth. Plus, the others hadn't reacted to the blue-haired member's comment - nothing except a quick glance with the character in glasses.]
(walking away like they're paid per step!)
"Or something? If you're so lax with your security, it seems a shame to be in here. Where's the fun in this entire situation? One of you is on your Oracle instead of paying attention, and you seem a bit too eager to keep us."
[Without warning, he swung backwards with one of his hands and watched as the air around it shredded like wet paper. Light spilled in and he smiled.] "Oh good, that worked!"
["Hey, wait! You-" the glasses character exclaimed]
"Afraid we can't, we're not supposed to be here!"
[Puck said loudly, drowning out the other's protests as he kept hitting the invisible wall, sending more light into the area.]
XD
