TDM #10

Arrival / Enchanted Garden

Whether it be sleep or death, you feel your eyes close, and as your body begins to let go, you see a barn owl that is flying through the darkness, soon sweeping you across the clouded sky. You feel yourself mouth the words, “I wish, I wish..” and utter your deepest and darkest desire.

When you regain consciousness, you’ll find you are in an unfamiliar place with no recognition of how you arrived here. You have the clothes on your back, but nothing else. No weapons and if you had a particular superpower, you’ll notice it is missing. All you have is a satchel with a piece of bread, a vial of water, and a potion. The potion could be red, blue or golden. There are no instructions about these potions other than two words: Drink Me.

Will you drink it or not?

There is a parchment, handwritten in scrawling, jagged lettering that seems a bit... ominous:

“Welcome to my Labyrinth. Your CONTRACT is SEALED.”

You’re in a garden, surrounded by flowers and plants– most of which you cannot identify. However, there are a few that you can make out: Sunflowers and Hibiscus. You’ll soon find out that being around the Sunflower makes it difficult to pass through the already disorienting garden, even with the light guiding you. Where patches of them grow, even if only waist-high, you cannot pass through them, over them, or even destroy them to get them out of your way. In each grouping that blocks your path, there is one that has a key-shaped opening in the middle of the flower. Maybe the key is nearby? (Spoiler: it's probably under a rock nearby that you forgot to check!) The hibiscus offers an entirely different effect - inhaling the pollen grants you the temporary ability to shoot fireballs out of your hands. But be careful, those fireballs are difficult to control and seem to bounce in random directions no matter how hard you try to aim (cannot be used to destroy the sunflowers). The effect ends once you step out of the garden.

It's Dangerous to go Alone! Take This.

Somnius is once again recovering from a devastating blow. Buildings need to be restored to their former glory and the emotional turmoil of the previous weeks surely needs to be alleviated. What better way to lighten the mood than a little fun for the whole family? A new arcade has appeared in town, beckoning residents with its stone doors set wide open.

With multiple levels, a variety of games and even a snackbar, Appl3 Pi Arcade is sure to be a hit!

Of course, as with everything that ever happens in Somnius, the arcades appearance is not without some complications. For one, playing the games inside might see characters teleported into the machine itself, perfectly pixelated to fit the game they're in. Hope you weren't about to fight the final boss, because now you might be fighting for your life! The good news is, if you die in the game... you don't die in real life and are just popped back out into the arcade again.

Strange things happen outside the arcade too. Walking down the road you might suddenly see a healthbar pop up above someone's head. Are you supposed to fight them? Are they going to fight you? Best to be cautious and reach for any trusty weapons you have just in case. Weapons that have become pixelated and can be pulled seemingly out of nowhere like some kind of hammerspace. They are also prone to breaking and shattering into glimmering pixel pieces (your normal weapons are still intact, don't worry).

Boxes and pots around Somnius are somehow more breakable than usual, smashed open with a single swing of those pixel weapons and producing gold coins! What a shame gold coins aren't the currency here. But if you don't want to destroy more things around Somnius, why not try fishing instead? That seems safe - if not suddenly more difficult with the fishing minigame that popped up in front of you. Quick! Keep the fish icon in the green bar or you'll lose it!

All things considered? It's all relatively harmless fun up until-

But Enough Talk, Have At You!

Vaeros wakes up. For those new to town, this means nothing. For those that were here for the castle raid? They can rest assured that they're in for a surprise. The Overlord of Visium has finally awoken from his Hyalily induced coma and he is furious. A shout echoes from the castle:

"Did you think you had won, dear Dreamers? Did you think you had bested me? Go, play your games, but know that there is only one winner here, and it is me."

A wave of magical energy sweeps through the town, shaking it to the very core. Miraculously, the destroyed buildings and any remnants of the forest onslaught are gone and returned to their usual state. Perhaps Vaeros shouting was just another tantrum, an empty threat?

Not quite.

The town has been restored, but the locals? They are nowhere to be seen - cowering in their homes and fleeing to the sanctity of the Church of the Moon in hopes of staying out of sight of Vaeros and Dreamers both. The once tame video game effects are now far more intense - monsters from within those games are now rampaging through the town. They seem to shift through buildings, but if they run face first into a Dreamer, they will find them very corporeal and very deadly.

Not only that, but the lines are starting to blur between reality and fiction again, the healthbar above your head flickering in and out, the monsters turning from pixel beasts to real, live animals that roam Somnius - both feral and not. One second you are walking through town, and the next you are stepping onto a platform that starts to break under your weight, demanding you jump to the next platform before you plummet into an odd, multicolored abyss.

And strangest of all is that music coming from the labyrinth, growing louder when you approach and fading out when you move away.

OOC

Welcome to the [community profile] labyrinthum TDM! Characters will arrive depowered and with only their clothing, and will be given a satchel with a crystal pendant, a communication device, some water and bread and a magic potion. If they drink the potion, they will manifest an elemental, healing or animal transformation ability.

With the exception of Castle Vaeros, characters are free to go as they please, so feel free to place them in any of the locations available on the map. Yes, this includes the Labyrinth - though characters will not be able to clear the maze.

You can find more information about the game here. Any questions regarding the TDM can go under the comment below.

[So much for that idea, and that jacket..... Alas and WOE. Mercifully, he gives up on that line of attack and instead pulls his singed jersey on, wisps of smoke still drifting up from the holes.] 'kay...

[In the meantime, he attempts to douse the flames with handfuls of dirt, managing to put out some of the stray fire that's landed on the ground below. But really, it's Yukine and his goblin friends that start making actual progress on the mess, leaving Yato feel more than a little inept. Even when he has cool new powers, he still manages to screw up...]

Ah, yeah, you weren't there, but me and Hiyori were. For almost ten months. And wherever this is, it ain't there! At least I had a weapon in Songerein. [Ah!] But you're here now, Yukine! I'm no longer naked!

[Thankfully he's speaking metaphorically, not literally.]

Ten months..? [ Yukine seems to stop dead in his tracks, the way Yato just passes over that comment like it means nothing to him. Yet, to a God who can live centuries, it must have felt like simply a blip in time. The boy awkwardly shifts around going quiet for a moment, focusing his attention on dowsing the flames of the fountain. The water from the buckets being filled inside the homes until finally, it manages to go out... ]

So you and Hiyori were... Alone for 10 months together? Yeah, Hiyori told me that too... [ A slight bit of jealousy, not because he has feelings for Hiyori or anything like that. Instead, it was more the fact that the two of them seemed to have lived on without him, leaving him behind in some way. This was what bothered him the most.

He realizes Yato mentions being weaponless, and suddenly jumps at that topic a bit desperately. ]
Wait but, I don't even have my powers here? I can't even seem to turn into my Ayakashi form - or well when I try. I just end up turning into a wolf... That's why I was a wolf before, when I was talking to you. I couldn't get any of my powers back no matter what I did. Maybe... Maybe if you called my name?

That's why I'm so glad to see you! I was fretting over what you must've thought if I up and disappeared or slept for that long. Although if you'd gone ahead and partied a bit, I wouldn't have blamed you, heh. [It's funny how so many months felt both like forever and yet no time at all. Maybe because for him it really wasn't much of his life, yet being away from Yukine made time drag. Now, even with this craziness and him setting shit on fire, it seems as though he's come back to life, which is conveyed through a bright smile as he resists the urge to hug his shinki yet again.]

Oh man, yeah! So much shit happened in that time, I hardly know where to start. Maybe we should all get together and catch up on what's been going on, since Hiyori is here too! [Knowing that sends a wave of relief through him; ever since arriving here, he'd been afraid he left her behind... again.

Although the mention of an ayakashi form startles him out of his blissful reverie, expression instantly turning worried. The only ayakashi form he's known Yukine to have was early on, when he almost crossed over. Is it possible he went down that path again because the two of them weren't there...? No. He said a wolf. That's nowhere near the creature he came close to transforming into. So why--]

Whoa, whoa, slow down there! One thing at a time. Let's see if we've still got our bond, okay? I can feel your name inside me, so it's not like it's gone, but at the same time it's like when I was in Songrein and you weren't there - faint. Soooo-- Come, Sekki! [He thrusts a hand out towards Yukine, expecting, hoping for the usual feel of wrapped steel in his hands. And yet... nothing. Frowning, he tries again.]

Sekki!

What do you mean, you weren't away from me at all really? Ah hey, - - Come on!! [ Hair all ruffled more now... There is never a dull moment with Yato, and Yukine attempts to struggle within his arms. The weight of Yato's body leaning against him, as he tries to wiggle away from the God. Eventually, the two would part as Yukine shoves him nicely away. Excitedly prepared to return to his form as a blade - except that nothing occurred. ]

... I don't even feel a call or pull. I am willing, I am trying to. [ Yukine then starts focusing and makes grunting noises as if he were constipated. ] Come on!! Sword form.... Mm... Hnnng... NN!!! [ Yet the tension leaves from him and he looks over to Yato innocently, ] See, nothing either...

[ A sigh of disappointment, as he shuffles his hands back into the pockets of his pants. ] I guess, maybe, we should just group up with Hiyori and talk about everything...

[When it becomes clear that nothing is happening nor is going to happen, a crestfallen look shadows Yato's face. Just when he thought things were getting back to normal...! He calls out for his shinki once, twice more to no avail, finally giving up with a single tear streaking his face.]

W-Why won't it work...?! You're right here but you feel so far away still... [It's almost akin to how it was when Yukine shattered. Or at least that the closest situation that he can relate this to. Sighing heavily, he sets a hand lightly on Yukine's head.] It's okay. Don't try to force yourself if it's not gonna go. You did you best, that's all you can do. Man, when I get a hold of this Vaeros guy, I'm gonna--!

[Grumbling under his breath, he joins Yukine in sulking, hands tucked deep in his pockets.] Sounds good to me. Maybe she knows more than we do. If nothing else, we can compare what we've found out and stick together from now on. I'm not letting either of you two out of my sight!

[Knowing him, he means it. Overprotective god-dad mode ACTIVATE!]

Yeah! Yeah youre right... [ 10 months though.... 10 months... 10 Months... ] The last time I spoke to her she was hanging out by this alleyway where the school castle thing is. Uh... I met her because she suddenly turned into an Ape - did you know she could do that now?

[A busy ten months at that.... They have SO MUCH to talk about, it's probably a good thing they aren't linked up as god and shinki, otherwise there'd liable to be at least a little stinging going on. Or so Yato thinks.]

Ah, yeah! I bumped into her here in one of the alleyways while exploring. She scared the shit out of me at first, but once you get used to it, she's kind of cute like that, too, isn't she? I guess that makes us a family of furries now! Hehe.

[Things you didn't need to know about your master #64: Thinks big pink apes are attractive (if they're Hiyori.)]

[personal profile] snowkine 2024-07-11 12:25 am (UTC)(link)
[ All the stinging, especially because Yukine is feeling all sorts of guilt at this moment. ]

F-Family? OF FURRIES? YOU THOUGHT SHE WAS CUTE? YATO DID YOU HIT YOUR HEAD?

[ Yukine at this point is like gripping his jacket and shaking him. ]

[Thank the heavens then; if he almost died of blight again, Hiyori would kill him.]

WHAAAHHHHAAAAHAAAA--!! I MEAN, I MIGHT HAVE, BUT-- [Why are they shouting] --it's Hiyori! I can't help loving her no matter what form she takes! Now LEMME GOOOOOO~!

[He's starting to get dizzy from all the shaking, here! Yet he's not doing anything to defend himself, either.]
