About Me: Eastern KY USA, Eastern Timezone, love writing, TV, and movies!

Character Name: Mister Gold/Rumpelstiltskin
Canon: Once Upon a Time
Character Age: 250+ years
General Info: Mister Gold is at least to some degree the cause of a lot of the plot in Once Upon a Time, or associated with the causes in some way. A magic user of considerable age and knowledge, he tends to be the authority on how magic works or does not, but that does not mean he welcomely shares said information. The Dark One is often regarded as a trickster, someone who is willing to make a deal with you and offer magic to fix something you need through magical means. But the caveat is that magic always has a price and you have to sit with that if it inevitably goes wrong. The thing is: He's not really a trickster. Magical dealmaker, yes. But in truth the only thing that tricked you was your inability to read fine print, and that is not his responsibility. Is his magic more drawn to desperate people liable to make desperate decisions? Yes. But he did warn you. That was more than what he got.

Gold is gruff and not terribly nice (but he is nicer than he thinks he is) -- and he assumes most people are not nice either and just very good at hiding it. So don't be too put off if he regards you with suspicion at first. But he is conversely drawn to people that show their best regardless. If you're kind to him he won't trust it but he hopes it's real. The trouble is that like most hurt people, he may test those boundaries because he can't trust it.

He's a homebody and seems most in his element when he has work to do, and even with magic he thinks some things should be done by hand and appreciated as such. He comes from a time where hunting, growing, and foraging were just ways of life, so since his arrival he has been finding his way with relative ease and without engaging as much in town. His home is presently very well set up and thanks to the charity of acquaintances he even has power and water now.

He also tends to dive into work as a stim of sorts; it stops him thinking about things he should be working through (lots of mourning, trauma, etc), so he often looks very at ease and very focused but he's probably disassociating.

Housing Plans: Gold presently lives alone in a quaint little hill house that he was putting a lot of work into even before his magic started coming back. There are rain barrels to catch water (leftover from before he had power, but presently used for cleaning and to water the little garden he appears to be cultivating just outside). He's built little awnings out of tree bark to protect his windows from rain and snow. Now that the snow has started to melt, one might notice around the area of his home there's a drainage system gently formed and in place to prevent erosion. The inside is warm, dry, and cozy, with little things like curtains and rugs cropping up slowly, as well as intricate little carvings in the ceiling beams and doorways. The kitchen is slowly becoming more outfitted with tools, and while there is now a more modern and working stove and oven, he maintains the original fireplace and still might cook and bake certain things there. There are drying herbs and other foraged ingredients hanging from strings on the ceiling beams, some placed near the round window to catch direct sunlight where needed. The bathroom has the sink, toilet (in an enclosed area from the rest), a small area for laundering and hanging clothes (including a stool where he sits and works), as well as a large wooden bathtub (that is thankfully outfitted with running water now). There is a small cabinet for storing towels, soaps, bath oils, etc. There are two bedrooms inside but only one currently lived in. The beds in both rooms are curtained to keep warm air in, and Gold is presently using the second bedroom as a second workspace as needed.

Desired CR: Gold is a prickly thing and while I am fine with all kinds of CR I don't need a LOT of negative. Friends and well-meaning meddlers are always welcome. He is very careful around children or anyone he reads as a kid -- magic-wise, they are off limits as far as he is concerned, and being a father himself he tends to be softer and more patient. His son very recently died, it is why he is here, so he's more of a sadsack than usual but it also unfortunately means he might displace on other people a little. He likes to be useful in his own way, even if he has a price on his knowledge and abilities. He appreciates the knowledgeable, the brave, the kindhearted. People who know their trade and ply it well. Clever people he as a fondness for. But if you mistreat the weak, are unkind to children, ableist, etc -- just know if he finds the opportunity to screw up your day, he will. He holds grudges; if your first impression involved showing your ass he is never going to like you.

Initial Plans: Gold is staying busy. He does odd jobs everywhere for trade and shards but works most of his hours at the clothing shop, where he makes thread and fabric, and can tailor and design. You will see him around town, and he is more given to talking if only because unraveling the mystery of this place might require knowledge from every possible source.

RP Wishlist: I want to build more on current and new CR. I want to force Gold to deal some more with his issues: The death of his son, the fact that he misses his wife-to-be (and may not ever see her again), the fact that he did not want to come back to life and highly doubts he will be going home once this is all over. It's a lot and he is doing everything he can NOT to think about it.

Anything else: Him on the latest TDM
